چکیده

The validation of numerical tools employed in the analysis incidental transients a fusion reactor is topic main concern. KIT taking part this task providing both experimental data and by performing support codes used for safety analyses Helium Cooled Pebble Bed (HCPB) blanket concept. In recent years, an campaign has been performed KIT-HELOKA facility to investigate behavior First Wall Mock-Up (FWMU) under Loss Of Flow Accident (LOFA) conditions. aim was twofold: check expected DEMO thermal-hydraulics conditions during normal off-normal provide robust code validation. present work these efforts, it deals with LOFA system MELCOR 1.8.6 fusion. A best-estimate methodology ease distinction between user’s assumptions limitations. are here described together their goals, achievements, lesson learnt.

Helium-cooled refractory alloys first wall and blanket evaluation

Under the APEX program the He-cooled system design task is to evaluate and recommend high power density refractory alloy first wall and blanket designs and to recommend and initiate tests to address critical issues. We completed the preliminary design of a helium-cooled, W–5Re alloy, lithium breeder design and the results are reported in this paper. Many areas of the design were assessed, inclu...

[Article] Thermal-Hydraulic Analysis of the EU DEMO Helium-Cooled Pebble Bed Breeding Blanket Using the GETTHEM Code

The GEneral Tokamak THErmal-hydraulic Model – GETTHEM has been updated to the most recent version of the EU DEMO Helium-Cooled Pebble Bed (HCPB) Breeding Blanket (BB) design. The GETTHEM results are first benchmarked in a controlled case against the results of 3D Computational FluidDynamics computations, showing an acceptable accuracy despite the inherent simplifications in the GETTHEM model. G...

Neutronics Analysis of A Self-Cooled Blanket for A Laser Fusion Plant with Magnetic Diversion

A blanket concept made of the low electrical conductivity SiCf/SiC composite and utilizing Li17Pb83 as coolant and tritium breeder has been developed and integrated with the magnetic diversion system. Neutronics issues related to tritium breeding adequacy particularly with the area lost to the dump plates at the ring and point cusps were addressed. Radiation damage and lifetime considerations f...

UWFDM-1362 Mobile Tiles for Inertial Fusion First Wall/Blanket

A conceptually simple first wall (FW) and blanket design for an inertial fusion system based on utilizing mobile FW tiles is presented. Using these tiles that are periodically removed, annealed, and reinstalled, tritium retention and surface erosion concerns for inertial fusion FW could be mitigated. A conceptual configuration has been developed with consideration for laser beam port accommodat...

Nuclear Analysis of the First Wall/Blanket/Shielld of Inertial Fusion Energy Reactors

The design of the cavity and shielding system of the Prometheus reactors was undertaken by UCLA in conjunction with an IFE conceptual reactor study led by McDonnell Douglas. A wetted wall by a thin lead film was used as part of the first wall system (FWS) designated to protect the cavity against the microexplosions. The FWS is attached to the blanket/reflector/plena (B/R/P) system. For low acti...
